Within a Shutdown environment, safety is a prevalent problem. The vast majority of personnel will be on-site for only a short period, and for some, this will be their first time on site. A major industrial plant is a dangerous place and all these people need to be kept safe.
Planning for Shutdowns is a complex and methodical undertaking, involving the cross involvement of multiple workgroups from an early stage to ensure the safety of personnel and integrity of plant and equipment is maintained throughout the Shutdown period. The planning requires the involvement from every level of the company, from Senior Managers to the operatives carrying out the manual work.
Total Shutdown safety has been designed to enable those involved in the planning, preparation, management, supervision and running of Shutdowns, a better understanding of the risks involved and how to implement effective strategies to prevent and mitigate against such risks.
The course aims to provide delegates with the underpinning knowledge to effectively plan for the Safety and well-being of personnel during a shutdown period. The course looks at what constitutes a Shutdown, the personnel involved, Project Planning, Risk Management, Contractor Management and High-Risk Activities.
Total Shutdown Safety also examines Safety Audits and Safety Inspections, and how both protocols can be utilised effectively throughout all stages of the shutdown, from the early planning stages through to the final hand-over and start-up stage. At the conclusion of this Training programme, delegates will have the knowledge to;
- Understand what constitutes a ‘Shutdown’ and the different types of ‘Shutdowns’
- Recognise the value of appointing a Planning Team from an early stage
- Understand the differences between, Hazards and Risks and understand different Risk assessment techniques relevant to various plant conditions
- Identify and apply Risk Assessment techniques, Job Step Analysis and Method Statements
- Effectively plan for and manage Contractor and Sub-Contractor safety compliance
- Understand the difference between Audit & Inspection and identify when to use
- Advanced Event Incident Investigation Techniques (Root Cause, ICAM)
- Analysis of findings from Audits/Inspections and how to use the information effectively
- Undertake Safety Interactions, Safety Observations and Behaviour Based Observations
- Fostering a culture and climate that openly communicates risk
- Effectively balance risk against cost in order to optimize risk reduction measures
